alone in viet nam

colophon

Alone in Viet Nam launched on 12 May, 2008.

Validation / CSS

With the exception of the contact page (XHTML 1.0 Transitional with an allowTransparency error), all Alone in Viet Nam pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict. There are many reasons why I have taken care to validate the site, not least of which is that it is what I do for a living.

Alone in Viet Nam is built on the Blueprint framework along with additional CSS customizations for layout, typography, and browser compatibility conflicts. For the first time in several years I decided to forgo the exercise of bringing one of my sites down to par with Internet Explorer 6. My apologies if you are still using that browser.

Content Management / Design

I designed Alone in Viet Nam using Photoshop CS3 Extended and coded the site using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. For content management, I am using my favorite open source CMS platform, WordPress.

You may notice that page headings and sidebar headings do not look like standard web fonts. This is due to the use of sIFR, an elegant solution for dynamically generating more beautiful fonts on the fly.

You may also notice that the sidebar headings vary in brightness. To achieve this effect, I used an absolutely positioned transparent gradient (PNG).

The sidebar design was aided along by a beautiful Japanese Foliage Photoshop brush set created by Designfruit.

The Contact Form

The Alone in Viet Nam contact form was created by using Wufoo. Due to the required iframe in order to display the contact form, I was unable to validate this particular page as Strict. The design of the form is mostly controlled by Wufoo, along with a few additional self-hosted CSS customizations.

Copyright

It’s almost silly to think that my photos, designs, and content will not be used to an extent. With that said, I would truly appreciate some recognition in the form of a donation or link from your website if you do use any of my content for any reason.

Privacy

On the contact page, there are a few additional questions that I ask in regard to age and location. I will not use the information for any reason other than to know more about you. The privacy of your email address is extremely important to me and I will not disclose this information to anyone, ever.
