While my writing is derived from personal experience in Viet Nam, there are a number of websites and other resources that have helped me in my travels to and from Viet Nam, or, at the very least, provided me with a great deal of entertainment:
Before leaving the United States for Viet Nam, I spent time on TripAdvisor and Craigslist attempting to connect with other travelers. I’m still looking for an active Viet Nam expatriate forum, but until that time comes, TripAdvisor’s forum works for me. Craigslist is another useful website if you’re looking for roommates in Viet Nam or apartments for rent.
If you are looking for a good deal on a plane ticket to Viet Nam, I suggest that you visit CheapOAir. I actually prefer to buy direct from Singapore Airlines due to the mileage accrual restrictions associated with budget buys, but if that is not a concern, CheapOAir is a good starting point.
The most popular books that are read by travelers to Viet Nam can simply be purchased at small shops in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City or any other touristy spots around the country. I strongly suggest Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, Anthony Grey’s Saigon, or a Lonely Planet travel guide.
Thank you for taking the time to read Alone in Viet Nam.
